NY-Based Indoor Farming Company ‘Nimble Farms’ Debuts New Brand Across Tops Supermarkets
Nimble Farms (formerly Ellicottville Greens), a regional indoor farm, announced its new brand identity and announced a major retail expansion on Jan. 28. Through a chain-wide launch at Tops Friendly Markets, Nimble Farms introduced its new produce brand, reinforcing its mission to make fresh, local food accessible to every region and community, year-round.
Since 2018, Nimble Farms has utilized controlled environment agriculture (CEA) technology to develop a distributed network of modular farms powered entirely by renewable energy. The company has established a foundation in New York State, scaling its operations while staying committed to providing fresh produce for its customers throughout the year.
At the heart of the company’s operations are modular, climate-controlled grow units housed in converted shipping containers. Designed to maximize productivity per square foot, each unit is equipped with energy-efficient LED lights, recirculating water and nutrient systems, and precise environmental controls. This setup optimizes inputs such as fertilizer, water, and energy, enabling year-round production of a wide variety pesticide-free, non-GMO crops like living lettuces, herbs, microgreens, and mushrooms. To further enhance its commitment to sustainability, all Nimble Farms sites are powered 100% by renewable energy sourced from local solar, wind, and hydroelectric power.
The company collaborates closely with local supermarkets, farmers’ markets, schools, and hospitals across New York State and the broader Northeast region to meet the growing demand for local produce. To mark its rebrand, Nimble Farms announced a new partnership with Tops Friendly Markets. The company’s Butterhead Living Lettuce is now available in all 152 Tops locations across New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, with plans to expand product offerings in the near future.
Currently operating three sites in New York State, Nimble Farms is planning further expansion throughout the region and beyond. By the end of this year, the company plans to double its sites, expanding operations in New York and Pennsylvania, with the ultimate goal of building 100 locations nationwide within the coming decade. This growth strategy underscores its commitment to expanding access to fresh, healthy food, creating green jobs, and building regional food security.
