Mastronardi Produce Acquires New Greenhouse to Expand Sunset
Mastronardi Produce, the fourth-generation family-owned pioneer in the commercial greenhouse industry, announced that it acquired 91 acres of greenhouse space in Canada on November 4, 2024. This newly constructed facility, which is located in Kingsville, Ontario, will provide lit production of Sunset-branded produce in the winter.
In addition to this greenhouse, Mastronardi Produce will serve as the only marketer for two other facilities: J.C. Fresh Farms Limited (32 acres in Kingsville) and Orangeline Farms Limited (32 acres in Leamington). This collaboration gives the company a total of 91 acres of greenhouse capacity in Canada.
“This additional greenhouse acreage allows us to further our mission of delivering ‘wow’ flavor experiences with locally grown fruits and vegetables,” said Paul Mastronardi, president and CEO of Mastronardi Produce. “We are excited about these additional farms, as the increased acreage will play a vital role in supporting our continued growth in Canada and ensuring we meet the rising demand for Sunset-branded produce.”
The new glass greenhouse facility, which was constructed in 2020, utilizes advanced technology and lighting to optimize growing conditions and ensure high-quality produce.
About Mastronardi Produce
Since the 1940s, four generations of Mastronardi family leaders have made Mastronardi Produce the CEA powerhouse it is today. The company has grown consistently throughout the years, in both acquisitions and partnerships with vegetable growers. Prior to this new greenhouse acquisition, the company already had more than 5,000 acres of CEA growing capacity across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Paul continues to build on Mastronardi Produce’s legacy, and his efforts have been noted across the industry. In fact, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ontario Produce Marketing Association (OPMA) in 2022. This award recognizes the tireless efforts of an individual to improve the quality and distribution of fruits and vegetables marketed within and outside of Ontario through innovation, cooperation, and hard work.
