Scientific Program Officer Foundation of Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR)

Rebecca Gyawu is a Scientific Program Officer III at the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR). FFAR is a 501(c)(3) organization established by Congress in 2014 through the Farm Bill to fund innovative research in Food and Agriculture. At FFAR, Rebecca develops and manages programs under the Bolstering Healthy Food Systems Priority Area.

One of the programs she is excited about is the Precision Indoor Plant Consortium (PIP). PIP is a multi-partner pre-competitive collaboration that pursues audacious research to design crops and premium products specifically for indoor systems and pushes the boundaries of scientific knowledge regarding phytochemical production to increase yields of nutritious and flavorful crops. PIP leverages partners’ resources and expertise to support innovative and transformative research and produce scientific discoveries that benefit partners’ goals and the public. Current crops of focus include lettuce, tomatoes, and strawberries. Rebecca manages the consortium activities and data workgroups. Additionally, she ensures that partners have access to comprehensive and robust data that each organization can leverage to answer unique scientific questions. PIP’s current partners include BASF, FFAR, Fluence, and GreenVenus.

Rebecca holds a master’s degree in Food and Nutritional Science from Tuskegee University and another master’s in Global Health Policy Management from Brandeis University. She is passionate about improving global food security issues.
